Early Years Practitioner - Level 2

 

Program Details

This course is ideal for candidates looking to work with babies and/or children between birth and 5 years, and gain knowledge of working with children up to 7 years. You will work and interact directly with children on a day-to-day basis supporting the planning and delivery of activities, purposeful play opportunities and learning opportunities. You would typically work for a private nursery, childminders or early years/foundation stage setting in a school.

If you have an interest in your days being varied, being in demand, and enjoy feeling rewarded after a day of entertaining and supporting children, then this could be the apprenticeship for you!

If you have any previous experience of babysitting, or looking after younger siblings and family, and enjoyed this kind of interaction with young children, it’s likely that you’ll enjoy this career path. You will also earn a wage while you study we can help you secure employment where you will earn a minimum of £5.28 an hour for a minimum of 30 hours a week.

Entry Requirements

You will need to have achieved a GCSE grade 4/C (or equivalent) in Maths and English by the end of this program. Therefore, if you do not already hold a grade 4/C in these subjects, you will be required to carry out a short Maths and English Assessment to see if we are able to offer you Functional Skills support to reach a Level 2 (grade C/4 equivalent).

Training Delivery

You will enjoy a blended learning experience through live Tutor- led classroom sessions via Zoom, 2 days a month(every other week). This is supported by 1-2-1 visits from your tutor.

North Cumbria Learners are offered face-to-face lessons every other week from our Carlisle training centre.

You will also complete online learning modules via our bespoke interactive learning technology platform OLLIE.

Course Content

This apprenticeship is designed to develop the your knowledge, skills and behaviours (K.S.B) in order to successfully complete an EPA (End Point Assessment).

Apprenticeship Details

The course content includes a range of topics which make up the variety of knowledge, skills and behaviours of what makes for a highly competent and professional Early Years Practitioner. By acquiring these elements you will graduate the apprenticeship a fully competent and well trained Practitioner.

The training delivery will cover the following units:

Unit 1 – Role and responsibilities of the Early Years Practitioner
Unit 2 – Health and safety of babies and young children
Unit 3 – Equality, diversity and inclusive practice
Unit 4 – Safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and children
Unit 5 – Understand how to support children’s development
Unit 6 – Support care routines for babies and young children
Unit 7 – Support the planning and delivery of activities & play
Unit 8 – Promote play in an early years setting
Unit 9 – Support well being of babies young children for health
Unit 10 – Support babies and young children to be physically active
Unit 11 – Support babies & young children with special educations needs
Unit 12 – Promote positive behaviour in Early Years Setting
Unit 13 – Partnership working in the early years
Unit 14 – Support the child in preparing for school

Learner Journey

The Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship typically takes between 12 to 14 months to complete. The program includes 12 months of “on-programme learning” followed by assessment for Gateway. You will be provided with a clear scheme of work which will set out the scheduled classroom and online sessions, 1-2-1 reviews, Tutor observations and mock end point assessments.

Gateway

When you are ready for Gateway, you must have proof that you hold at least a Level 1 in English & maths and have attempted Level 2. If you have been engaged in Functional Skills training, this must have been completed and you must have achieved the correct grade before EPA can take place.

End Point Assessment

The EPA for EYP is made up of a 90 min. professional discussion, which is supported by your portfolio of evidence (containing a minimum of 10 pieces of evidence) which can used to evidence and support your responses to the questions. In addition, there is also a knowledge test of 40 multiple choice questions.

Following this, you will be awarded either a distinction, pass or fail following EPA. Should you fail one or more of the EPA methods you will be offered the opportunity to take a resit/retake.
