About the role

Do you want to train to be a teaching assistant that is devoted to supporting pupils with additional needs?
This could be the perfect position for you! Caldew SEN Department are looking for an apprentice to join their experienced and knowledgeable team. General duties to include

• The role will include
• Supporting pupils with additional needs in mainstream classes
• Keeping records of pupil progress
• Supporting pupils to arrive at their classes on time and prepared.
• Supporting the pupils emotional and social needs.
• Working across the curriculum and Key stages
• Supporting pupils over their lunch break
• This is a fast paced and varied role, Caldew would like someone who has a genuine passion for working with pupils with additional needs, this will require key skills such as - excellent communication skills, patience, problem solving, flexibility and resilience.Candidates should have grade C/4 or above in maths and English.

Training & Qualification Details

This Level 3 apprenticeship is expected to last a period of 15 months in duration. You will learn with System People a friendly and local training provider here in Carlisle 1 day every month via Tutor led sessions and online interactive learning via our bespoke innovative platform OLLIE. You will have access to 1-2-1 tutor support as well as a workplace mentor. System People have fantastic pass rates, we won the “BEST Training Provider Award” at the Golden Apples in 2019 and have been awarded a “Good” rating by Ofsted 2021. You may go on to work as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant or Learning support Assistant in a Primary or Secondary Setting.

Entry requirements

You will need to have achieved a GCSE grade 4/C (or equivalent) in Maths and English by the end this program, therefore, to apply for this role you will need to hold a grade C (grade 4) or above in Maths OR English and a D (grade 3) or above in the other.

There is support available through System People should you need Functional skills Maths or English support to reach a Level 2 (grade C/4 equivalent). Learners on this apprenticeship must also complete the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid.
