About Mayo Kindergarten

Mayo Kindergarten is a private nursery school for children aged from 18 months to 4 years that operates within a large Victorian three storey terraced house within a residential area of Cockermouth in Cumbria.
Children in our setting also have access to a fantastic, secure enclosed outdoor play area. The Kindergarten was rated as “Good” by Ofsted following our most recent inspection in November 2019.
We aim to provide a happy and stimulating environment for all children, encourage independence and self-motivation, ensure equality of opportunity for all children, enable all children to fulfil their potential at their own pace and work in partnership with parents and carers.

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team. The role of an Early Years Practitioner is to support our Nursery Assistants to ensure all children who attend Mayo receive a variety of stimulating and creative learning experiences in a safe, happy and secure environment.
As part of this apprenticeship, you will support the nursery assistants to look after the children in Kindergarten, and collectively during 'brain gym', outdoor play and lunchtimes.
If you are excited about working with young children and interested in supporting children's educational, social and emotional development this could be the perfect role for you!

General duties to include

  • Supervise arrivals and departures at beginning and end of sessions
  • Support the Nursery Assistants in providing high quality care and activities for the children and recognise both individual and group requirements in a secure, safe and stimulating environment
  • Be familiar with Mayo Kindergarten key policies and procedures, especially Safeguarding, Behaviour Management and Health and Safety
  • Support children in serving own food, snacks, drinks and encourage good nutrition and social eating
  • Carry out any general housekeeping tasks as required: including preparing equipment, snacks and drinks for snack time or lunchtime, getting out or putting away play items or general tidying and cleaning
  • Promote at all times good relations between staff members, parents and children and promote equality and welcoming ethos of the nursery.
