About Strawberry How Nursery School

Strawberry How Nursery School in Cockermouth is a private Day Nursery. We are the only modern, purpose-built, Day Nursery in West Cumbria. Within the Cockermouth Area we are the only setting with specialist facilities and staff specially trained to care for babies.

We have the highest accreditation from Cumbria Children's' Services and since 2009 we are the only Nursery in the Cockermouth Area to have a 5 star food hygiene rating from Environmental Health.

Needless to say, we are all proud of our Nursery. Within our setting we seek to offer professional, high-quality childcare and early years education within a friendly and caring atmosphere for children aged 3 months to 5 years old.

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic person who would love to join our team and learn the skills needed to work with children aged 3 months to 5 years.
We are looking for someone who has a real passion for working with children, has excellent communication skills and is ready to support our children to be the best they can be.
Essential criteria for this role includes having a good level of maths and English, grade C/4 or equivalent, great communication, a desire to learn and become part of our team and a willingness to be flexible.

General duties to include

  • Supporting children into the setting
  • Setting up and providing supervision of play activities
  • Ensuring our children have a happy, safe and healthy environment
  • Supporting with lunch duties
  • Keeping accurate records as required
Your future career with us

After the successful completion there may be the opportunity to progress to Level 3 Early Years Educator with us.

Training & Qualification Details

This Level 2 apprenticeship is expected to last a period of between 12 –14 months. You will attend live tutor led sessions 2 days every month (1 day every other week which will be via ZOOM) and participate in online interactive learning via our bespoke innovative platform OLLIE. Your Tutor will also visit you in the workplace for 1-2-1 Tutor sessions during the program. System People have fantastic pass rates and won the “BEST Training Provider Award” at the Golden Apples in 2019 and have been awarded a “Good” rating by Ofsted 2021.

Entry requirements

You will need to have achieved a GCSE grade 4/C (or equivalent) in Maths and English by the end of this programme. Therefore, if you do not already hold a grade 4/C in these subjects, you will be required to carry out a short Maths and English Assessment to see if we are able to offer you Functional Skills support to reach a Level 2 (grade C/4 equivalent).
