About Appleby Grammar School

Welcome to Appleby Grammar School. The School is set in a stunning rural location and is an academy with high standards and great ambition for all our students. We pride ourselves on our strong family and community ethos. Our curriculum is strong and well balanced, with plenty of choice. We are committed to developing every student's particular strengths in an environment in which they can thrive.

As a smaller secondary school, we know each of our students individually, but we are large enough to offer specialist staffing and a curriculum to match your child's ambitions. Additionally, our commitment to ensuring each student makes excellent academic progress and receives outstanding pastoral care helps demonstrate the progressive education we offer that prepares our young people for the 21st century.

About the role

Appleby Grammar School are looking for a Teaching Assistant apprentice to join their SEN team in September.
Within this role you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced and qualified staff while supporting students who have additional learning needs.
This is a varied and exciting role allowing the successful candidates to work across the year groups and curriculum areas.
It is a small secondary school with two/three classes per year group allowing staff to really get to know each student individually and meet their learning, social and emotional needs.
All candidates must be over the age of 18 and hold a minimum of a C/4 grade in maths and English. Due to our semi rural location the ability to drive will also be necessary.
If you have a passion for supporting young people with additional needs, have the desire to learn and develop your own skills and have excellent communication skills we would love to hear from you.

General duties to include

  • Supporting students within whole class teaching
  • Delivering planned learning activities to small groups and on a 1:1 basis
  • Keeping detailed and accurate records of students participation and progress
  • Supporting the academic, social and emotional development of the students.
  • Maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all of our students
  • Communicating clearly with all staff members
Your future career with us

After the successful completion of the apprenticeship, there may be the opportunity of part or full time employment.

Training & Qualification Details

This Level 3 apprenticeship is expected to last a period of between 12 –18 months. You will attend live tutor led sessions 2 days every month (1 day every other week which will be via ZOOM) and participate in online interactive learning via our bespoke innovative platform OLLIE. Your Tutor will also visit you in the workplace for 1-2-1 Tutor sessions during the program. System People have fantastic pass rates and won the “BEST Training Provider Award” at the Golden Apples in 2019 and have been awarded a “Good” rating by Ofsted 2021.

Entry requirements

You will need to have achieved a GCSE grade 4/C (or equivalent) in Maths and English by the end this program, therefore if you do not already hold a grade 4 in these subjects, you will be required to carry out a short Maths and English Assessment to see if we are able to offer you Functional skills support to reach a Level 2 (grade C/4 equivalent) by the end of the program.

Apprenticeships are open to everyone of all ages, so perhaps you have just left school and would like to get straight into work? Maybe you are a working parent looking for a change? Or perhaps you are looking for a career break and want to retrain and start something totally new! All applications are welcome.
